Minister Holloway’s recent press release regarding land at Gawler East seems to be getting a little ahead of itself. The press-release seems to disregard the fact that there is actually a detailed process to be gone through, including public consultation and study before rezoning can take place.
We feel it’s important to emphasize that NO REZONING HAS YET OCCURRED and will not and should not occur until proper investigations have taken place.

Yes its a big game for some people. Minister Holloway press release – we are having full public consultation on development at Gawler East but I am very happy to issue press releases saying that rezoning and development will start soon and that fixing up an old quarry with housing is a jolly good thing.
Delfin press comment – it is very important that there is full public consultation but we can announce that there should be 2500 affordable new houses in Gawler East soon.
Mayor of Gawler press comment – its terribly important that Gawler retains its country feel and there will be full public consultation but at the end of the day “bring it on”.
Its easy to understand how people standing to make money out of development get excited but where are our public representatives in defending proper public consultation. If they have the facts about what is in store for Gawler about traffic, water, rivers etc then why are we not getting put in the picture. And if they don’t have the facts then I can think of some other suggestions.
